Casters are good, clean maggots that have been allowed to continue the process of pupating naturally. They are the next stage in the life cycle of a maggot, the chrysalis of a maggot,a shell like pupae that contains the soon-to-emerge fly.

Casters are a superb bait that always tend to pick off the larger fish, possibly because larger fish like their crunchy shell, or maybe because casters are not fished as often as maggots - either way, a great bait!
