Annual membership of Southdown Angling Association is required to fish in its waters and Anglers Den is a Membership Outlet for Southdown A A.
Southdown's waters tend to be very tranquil and unspoilt.

Southdown’s waters include the local Pevensey Levels ,which comprise man made marsh drains containing Bream, Tench, Roach, Rudd, Perch, Eels, Pike and some Carp.

The Pevensey Levels includes Wallers Haven, Pevensey Haven and Chilley Stream.
These waters have a negligible flow in the summer months, but during winter there may be some flow and the levels may be lowered to alleviate flood risk. These waters are subject to the statutory annual close season 15th March until 15th June (incl).
1) Wallers Haven -
At 30 metres or so wide, with a depth of about 2½ metres, Wallers Haven is the largest of Southdown's waters on the Pevensey Levels. Wallers Haven holds some impressive pike, as well as the range of coarse fish usually found in rivers. Access points to parts of the Wallers Haven belonging to Southdown are as follows, and are marked on the map below:
A) Middle Bridge - can be found on the A259 between Pevensey and Little Common, entry over the style by the bridge. Southdown waters are on the west bank (Pevensey side), four fields upstream to one field beyond Dowles Corner (marked by notice).
NB. This venue is shared with the Hastings, Bexhill and District Freshwater Angling Association and the Isfield and District Angling Club.

Wallers Haven, Middle Bridge
B) Iron Bridge (Horse Bridge) - can be found on the Wartling to Hooe Road, entry over style or gate by the bridge on Horsewalk Lane, between Wartling and Hooe. Southdown waters are on the west bank (Pevensey/Wartling side), three fields upstream to Hogtrough Bridge, and two fields downstream to notice board. NO NIGHT FISHING.
NB. These venues are shared with Isfield and District Angling Club.

C) Boreham Street - can be found on the A271 between Boreham Street and Ninfield, entry over style by the bridge. Southdown waters are on the west bank (Pevensey/Wartling side), three fields downstream to Hogtrough Bridge.

2) Pevensey Haven -
Is 15 metres wide with a depth of about 2 metres, and offers more shelter from the wind, an ideal location for float fishing. Access points to parts of the Pevensey Haven, and Chilley Stream belonging to Southdown are marked on the map below.
Access to Pevensey Haven off Wartling Rd, near junction with A259 (Pevensey Service Station) over style by 'Sheepwash' (opposite side of road from service station in Pevensey Boot Fair field - you may choose to avoid Boot Fair times which are Sat lunchtime throughout the summer months). Southdown's water is on the north east bank, three fields upstream from Sheepwash to point where Pevensey Haven meets Chilley Stream. Southdown Water then continues on Chilley Stream - see below.

3) Chilley Stream
Access to Chilley Stream by Chilley Bridge, on Rickney Lane between Pevensey Roundabout and Chilley Farm.
Southdown waters are on the south east bank. Entrance over style by bridge to access downstream from Chilley Bridge to the confluence with the Pevensey Haven. Entrance over gate south of bridge to access four fields upstream from Chilley Bridge.

Southdown Angling Association also has waters on the River Cuckmere at: Shermans Bridge, Churchlands and Raylands Farm, again subject to annual close season 15th March until 15th June (incl).
Additionally, Southdown has three Still Waters available to members – there is no close season for these waters which may be fished all year round. These can be found at Curls Farm Ripe (NB. CURLS FARM CURRENTLY CLOSED 2022/3 - CHECK WITH SOUTHDOWN BEFORE TRAVELLING), North Farm Pool Marle Green and Cinderford Pond.
Exchange Permits
The Southdown A.A. have exchange permit arrangements with several other local and not so local angling clubs in Sussex and Kent, giving members the opportunity to fish other waters in the area. Further details on the Southdown Angling Association website.
Environment Agency Rod Fishing Licence
An Environment Agency Rod Fishing Licence is required for coarse fishing. These can be bought from local Post Offices, or online at
