Smoothhounds at Pevensey - and a First for Lewis - 16th June 23

Thanks Andy Smith for these pictures and report from a session in Pevensey Bay last night:
'Had a night session with my 2 sons last night (Friday 16th June) at local beach in Pevensey. Was a very slow start, not even a bite till just after high tide, then the bites started to come,
First was Lewis with his first ever Smoothound at 6lb 9oz, followed by myself with a 9lb 2oz Smoothound, then there were a few small Thornbacks.
Then Tylers rod leapt out out the rod rest & by time he got rod in his hands unfortunately it cracked off which undoubtedly would of been the biggest one of the night!! Gutted was an understatement!!! Great nights fishing!!!'

Great to see!! SMOOTHHOUNDS are probably the most exciting sport fish that we catch from local beaches. They are a powerful, hard fighting fish, a member of the shark family (although they have no teeth) and are normally caught between late May and August.
Good baits for catching smoothhound are ragworm/squid cocktail, lugworm/squid cocktail, just squid or crab baits.
