Kevin Morgan and Gary Banfield are pictured with catches of smoothhhound from Cooden Beach. Half a dozen hounds were caught between the pair with Gary's biggest at 8lb 10oz and Kev's at 7lb 15oz.
Smoothhounds are probably the most exciting sport fish that we catch from local beaches. They are a powerful, hard fighting fish, a member of the shark family (although they have no teeth) and are normally caught between late May and August.
Good baits for catching smoothhound are ragworm/squid cocktail, lugworm/squid cocktail, just squid or crab baits.
Young Jack Ripley fished Eastbourne reefs with his dad Luke and caught smoothhounds to 9lb 4oz, conger eel of 8lb 1oz and a 2lb bullhuss. Well done Jack!! and thanks to Luke for sending :)

Anderida Beach Fishing Club held a competition in Pevensey Bay with a fantastic 27 anglers fishing!
The match winner was James Wood with a 13lb 2½oz Smoothhound. Species caught on the night were smoothhound, dover sole, eel, gurnard and bass. James is pictured below with his winning smoothhound!

Thanks Pete Cornwell who sent this catch report from Sunday night:
'fished Eastbourne, with Damien and Sala, sea was slightly choppy, with a bit of rain. fish as follows....
Sala - 2 X sole to 47cm (2lb)
Damien - 1 X ray to 4lb, 1 X dogfish, 1 X eel
Damien has also had some great catches of smoothies the last few days with another Eastbourne double and one of 7-8lb.
Me - 2 X smoothies to 4lb, 3 X dogfish, 1 X ray, 1 X plaice, 1 X sole'

'Thanks for bait as usual, quick couple of hours Wednesday night couple of rays, few dogs and couple of strap eels, Thursday fished 2 up 2 down - 5 rays ,few tiny dogs, lost a nice conger in the surf, no massive fish but still good fun and sport. Regards Tony'
