28th April 2021
An Anderida Beach Fishing Club competition held in Pevensey Bay match saw 28 anglers catch a great variety of fish with 11 different species recorded including dover sole, flounder, plaice, dabs, smoothound, two bass, lots of dogfish, whiting, pout, ling and an eel.
The biggest fish was Mark Franks smoothound of 2lb 6¾oz just ahead of 2lb 6oz bass caught by Tim Lane. Both fish were returned alive. The best flatfish was a lovely flounder of 1lb 3½oz for Dave Powell.


Tom Gregory is also pictured below with a 49cm bass caught off Langney Point Eastbourne today.

Peter Cornwall and friend Sala caught several bass last night at Langney Point, Eastbourne - several undersize which were returned alive, but also some sizeable. Sala had two bass at 4lb 4oz and 3lb 14oz (plus smaller ones) and is pictured below with the largest.
Peter is pictured with the 4lb½oz bass he caught which got him on the specimen hunt board!! He also caught several smaller ones. All were caught on fresh lug.
Five sizeable bass were also caught today by Paul Christopher in the Pevensey Bay Angling Club match, great to see!!

Thanks Chris Voller for a great report and pictures: 'Had our first ray trip since we got locked down in the bay last night, last hour of flood and first 2 hours of the ebb . Squid and herring cocktails accounted for 9 ray between Colin Voller and myself, the largest for myself at 7lb 2oz, but dad managed a more than respectable best fish of 5lb 4oz. Stay safe guys'

Nick Wyndham is pictured with a lovely bass, possibly into double figures, caught on lugworm bait at Langney Point. The fish was released alive. Thanks Michael Wyndham for sending :)

Great to see the pier open again, and a great easy access fishing venue!

Glen Blackfords is pictured with the 4lb codling caught fishing out of Sovereign Harbour on Sunday on his brother Neil Blackfords boat 'Blackbird'..Also caught were 5 bass and a 2lb red gurnard. Good to see!! Thanks Kirsty Baker for sending.

Thanks Peter Cornwell for another great catch report from the weekend. The 6lb/11lb 8oz thornback ray got Pete onto the April Shore Species Hunt board. Pete reports:
'Fished Eastbourne, with Sala, was great to finally meet Cliff Davison, thank you for yr help. Well what a night, water was dirty, weather was dry and cold with a north Easterly breeze. Fish as follows
Sala...20 + whiting, 5 x dogfish, 1 x dab, 1 x flounder, 10 x rockling
Me...28 x whiting to 35cm, 8 x rockling, 6 x dogfish - to 60cm - 1 lb 9oz, 1 x dab, 2 x ray - 47cm(4lb) and 61cm - Scales 11lb 8oz (Converter chart 11lb 4oz)

Kevin Morgan is pictured with 3lb 8oz spotted ray caught in the early hours of yesterday morning from a West Sussex beach on squid bait. Spotted rays don't grow as big as other rays and tend to to be less common in Sussex - Well Done Kev!!

Peter Lavington is pictured with a nice plaice from his boat out of Eastbourne Sovereign Harbour today, on Anglers Den lugworm bait.
Lovely to see so many plaice being caught from local boats and beaches!
