There's still been a good variety of species being caught from local beaches over the past week.
Last Tuesday's first Blackrock Eastbourne and District Summer Sea League Match lots of different species were caught including a number of dogfish, some sizeable dover sole, and lots of small bass as well as some small rays, flounder, smoothound, ling, eels and a small codling.
Mirek Galant went fishing last weekend and messaged to say he caught exactly what he was targeting with this 6lb 13oz ray, and a conger approx 4-5lb, as well as a dogfish. All fish were safely returned, as Mirek would like to see them again, maybe when thay are a little bigger.
Thanks Mirek for letting us know - keep us posted.
Some sizeable bass are being also being caught locally with Paul King catching a 2lb 1oz bass in Friday's Over 50s Beach Fishing Competition held at Normans Bay.
Plaice also continue to be caught during the day, as well as flounders.
Summer species are also being seen with smoothounds (many small, but also some sizeable) starting to show from local beaches.
Mark Whittingham is pictured below with two of the 9 thornback rays (ranging from 4lb to 7lb 11oz) he caught in a session from a local beach last Thursday night. Mark said the fish were attracted by fish baits - squid, mackerel, bluey and crab, and that his friend had a thornback of 10lb.
Last Saturday night Ricky Diamond (pictured in green below) went fishing last night from Langney Point and both Ricky and friend Barry Roberts caught Rays all on Anglers Den bait. It's great to hear reports of rays being caught again from local beaches.
Mirek Galant is also sent us these pics of great ray fishing - he had a total of 4 rays over the weekend, the biggest 6lb. Thanks for sending Mirek.
GREAT RAY FISHING continues - Andrew Richard Vine sent this picture of a 8lb 4oz ray caught over the weekend from a local beach. Thanks for sending Andrew. Also pictured below is Stuart Draper with a nice bass caught at the weekend. Stuart also caught some plaice in the same session - Thanks Stuart.
